Why implants present the “standard” in tooth replacement and how you can benefit from them

At Signature Smiles Dental in Riverside, California, we don’t just treat dental problems – we genuinely and enthusiastically care for our patients. As such, we partner closely with individuals and families from throughout the Inland Empire. Our dentists, Drs Geomel Brian Bebing and Harun Ayouby work with patients to not only keep their teeth and gums looking fantastic and feeling great. But they are also on the front lines of identifying other oral conditions such as cancer.

Cancer screening saves lives

Other dental practices, near and far, may screen for oral cancers using conventional methods. During a routine checkup, scheduled once every six months for most patients, they look for suspicious discoloration, as well as rough patches, lumps, bumps, and other red flags for pre-cancers and cancerous lesions. These dentists evaluate areas of the mouth by sight and by touch. Drs Bebing and Ayouby also apply their considerable knowledge and skill to identify potentially troublesome sections; however, they have invested in sophisticated technologies that support the detection of tumors at their earliest stages.

A handheld device is directed toward suspicious areas by one of our dentists. If abnormalities are present, the affected spots “light up.” Such abnormal tissues would otherwise not be visible to literally shed light on them. Without such illumination, cancer might go undetected. Untreated, it would spread to other parts of the body and distant organs. Cancers that have metastasized are much harder to treat than those local cancers that have not spread. When detected early, localized cancers can be treated in more conservative and less disfiguring ways.

 The devices we use are:

  • Not invasive
  • Gentle
  • Painless
  • Quick, it can be completed in two minutes
  • Easy, may be incorporated into regular hygiene visits
  • Precise and clinically proven

Depending on what we find, additional evaluation by a specialist may be necessary. A small bit of tissue is sampled (or biopsied). This sample is then used to confirm a diagnosis. Regular hygiene visits are also important to identify risks such as smoking and tobacco use. We can then work with you to minimize or eliminate those risk factors. We look forward to partnering with you and your family!
