Porcelain Veneers

Why Porcelain Veneers are Gaining in Popularity – And Not Just with the Rich and Famous!

Achieving that perfect smile you desire can be no small feat. Even with regular brushing and flossing, your teeth could suffer from one of many possible dental defects, including discoloration, gaps, chips, cracks, and more. When patients in the Riverside, California area seek cosmetic dental treatment, finding one that is versatile and can help conceal many possible issues is essential. Dr. Geomel Bebing and Dr. Harun Ayouby offers natural-looking porcelain veneers to patients who come into Signature Smiles Dental looking to correct cosmetic dental problems.

Over the past several years, porcelain veneers have seen an incredible rise in popularity. Once considered a treatment for the rich and famous, veneers are now more popular than ever with dental patients of all economic tiers. Let us take a look at why that is.

Veneers – What are They?

Before we look at why veneers have become so popular among the average dental patient, it is essential to understand what they are. A dental veneer is a thin shell of porcelain custom-created to cover the front surface of a tooth. Because they are so thin, they are comfortable to wear and provide a beautiful, pearly white appearance. They are custom-fit to fit perfectly to the front of your tooth, onto which they are bonded. Before applying a veneer, minimal tooth preparation is required. A very thin layer of the tooth’s surface enamel will need to be removed, and then the surface of the tooth is slightly roughened before the veneer is bonded to the tooth using dental cement. Veneers are an excellent choice for concealing many different issues, including:

  • Tooth discoloration
  • Minor chips
  • Minor cracks
  • Gaps between teeth
  • Misshapen teeth

What You Can Expect from The Procedure

Before you even start looking at actual veneers, you and your dentist will have a quick consultation to discuss how you wish to correct your smile. During this conversation, your dentist will determine if veneers are a suitable dental treatment option for you. If you are considered a suitable candidate for porcelain dental veneers, your dentist will provide you with a brief overview of the process and next steps. In some cases, your dentist may decide that dental X-rays and/or impressions of your teeth are necessary to construct your veneers with complete personalized accuracy. This will all occur within your initial appointment.

Once these steps are completed, your dentist may need a tooth sample as a foundation point to construct of your custom veneers. A very thin layer of enamel will be removed from your tooth. At this point, we will generate a model of your teeth and use it as the basis to construct your personalized veneers. In the meantime, you may be provided with temporary veneers to wear. Once your permanent veneers are ready, they will be applied to the teeth using a strong dental cement and hardened using a specialized light apparatus. Your dentist will evaluate your smile following the procedure to ensure that the veneers have been appropriately applied, fit correctly, and remove excess cement. At this point, any final adjustments will be made.

Veneers Rise in Popularity

Veneers have seen an amazing surge in popularity over the last decade or more, resulting in more middle-class patients electing this treatment than ever before. Part of this is the affordability of veneers. While they used to be much more expensive, modern dental technologies have made them a more affordable option than in the past.

Another reason for the popularity of porcelain veneers is their versatility. As was stated previously, veneers can conceal an extensive range of dental issues. If you have a tooth that is discolored and has a minor chip, a single veneer can cover both in a single treatment.

Veneers are great for teeth that are minorly crooked or shifted, allowing your smile to appear perfect without the need for braces or other orthodontics. You will fall in love with your new smile when you receive your veneers.
